It was a miracle it didn’t rain. I was glued to the weather channel. The entire East Coast was getting poured on for weeks. Just 4 days before there was a flash flood alert in the NYC area. But it must have been all the positive energy coming from the girls that we had bright sunny skies, no humidity and the temperate only reached 83. How perfect was that?!?!

I saw a lot of familiar faces from last year like Kristen Klem, Amanda Pennacchini, Kelley Dowley, Jamie Meyers & Jana Ivey. The cool thing was that everyone’s skating improved… I mean, you could definitely see the level of skating going up.

Most impressive skater of the day was Michele Swoveland from Michigan. She won “Best New Comer”. She only skated mini and took 3rd with her very solid style. She must skate Air Born Skate Park out side of Detroit; great park! I don’t think anyone had heard of Michele before this event.

Keep skating Michele cause you could have a bright future.

Best trick Went to Jana Ivey for her tweeked out Misty Flip which she grabbed at the end and it kinda looked like she was Bio.

Big Shoot out to the Syrenz- B-Girl crew. They came with there own linoleum and worked it!

Last year my apartment ended up with all the younger skaters but this year it was the older chicks which meant we partied our butts off after wards with a trip to Times Square at 1:30 in the morning. Can you get any cornier?

These chicks were my judges and I want to say I couldn’t have done it with out you. Thanks to Donna Vano, Carry Foryes, France Raymond & Dana Girodano for arriving not too late with your car.

Kelly Linder, who I haven’t seen in 2 years .. you rock for helping out and staying with me!!

I’d also like to thank Corinne West, Debra’s Mom. If any of you haven’t had the chance to meet this super Mom, I totally recommend it. Corinne hung out at my home and helped me stuff entrance goodie bags till 2 am. .I LOVE YOU CORINNE!

And if we all don’t know, Franco, who was on the cover of the August Daily Bread is Debra’s boyfriend at the moment, ( they make a cute couple). He lent me his car to help out for the day….thank you very very much!

To All the skater girls who came out to have fun, this was your day, congratulations!

To my groovy sisters Julie and Carrie and her husband Donny for being the force. And last but not least baby Giuliana for picking the raffle.

Next up The WASN is in the works of producing a skate video. The goal is to get girls in their element. For many of the industry seeing girls is only about the elite competition scene. And since the ASA changed their format, only running the girls during Prelims, TV coverage is at zero.

The WASN believes that Street Skating is a very strong part of the girls scene and intends to capture it on video. Plus, we have more interviews coming up!

I’m off to the summer X-games to watch the girls go off. But - unfortunately they only get 2 runs and are just skating the prelims.

Did you all know even though the girls are awarded separately, they are still judged against the guys. A girl can make it into the finals only if she scores at the guys level……
So if that happens, (which it has once at an ASA comp where Fabiola scored high enough to skate the finals in Vert) the girl gets a chance at more prize money. This has sparked more animosity from the guys then ever.!

God forbid a girl takes money, air time, magazine space or video time away from a guy….because after all….THIS IS A BOY SPORT, RIGHT!
